I was thinking the same things (sidestand switch, killswitch) but what if his friend rode around with the choke out, or choked it too much.... the plug could be fouled....
Does the started just turn, or does she fire and then quit really quick? If it isn't firing at all, it could be the plug, plug wire, or something in the ignition circuit....
I'd go ahead and change the plug. Then I'd make sure the killswitch is in the run position, the bike is in neutral, and the clutch is in. Try to start. No Joy? Is clutch pulled in (and I mean is it really engaged- no busted clutch cable?)? Recheck all of the above. Try it with kickstand up and down.
I think the next place to look would be to see if powere is actually getting to the plug, but this may be out of your league.
Oh yeah, one last thing, are your fuses good? While the seat is off, take a look....
Good luck
